18 Jan US IARPA to Use AI for Automated Video Analysis
Last week, the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) announced an initiative to develop artificial intelligence for video imagery analysis. IARPA hopes that this will free analysts from the laborious task of identifying threats so that their skills may be put to better use.
Program officials revealed that they have already chosen six teams to develop machine vision techniques in a new program called Deep Intermodal Video Activity (DIVA). According to IARPA, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, along with HPC visualization specialist Kitware Inc., will evaluate research data and test proposed DIVA systems.
The agency also assured that the resulting technology will implement privacy protections and will not be used to track individuals.
