09 Sep Twitter Changes User Policy Right After SC Privacy Clampdown
Last Thursday, Twitter announced a change in its policy which states that collected user data may be moved to offshore servers and would be within the purview of service.
This was done right after the microblogging giant was sent a notice by the Indian Supreme Court, seeking the company’s legal view on a petition regarding data sharing activities of cross-border corporate entities that violate privacy rights.
Attorney Pavan Duggal, a cybersecurity expert, says that if private data is to be located in servers outside India, it will constitute a violation of privacy. He added that the Indian government needs to look at data localisation and come up with an appropriate privacy legislation fast.
