Trend Micro Apologizes for Data-Grabbing Apps

Cybersecurity company Trend Micro issued an apology this week to consumers after some of its MacOS apps had been caught collecting browser data from the user’s computer.

Apple said that it had removed Dr. Cleaner, Dr. Cleaner Pro, Dr. Antivirus, and Dr. Unarchiver from its Mac App Store for not complying with its developer policy which requires apps to obtain user consent before collecting their data.

However, the company previously defended the behavior of the apps, saying that the data collection had been mentioned in its end-user license agreements.
