24 Apr Top German Regulator Questions Facebook’s Hidden Data Collection
President of the Federal Cartel Office Andreas Mundt this week questioned the sheer volume of data that Facebook collects, especially those collected by the company from users outside of the social network.
Mundt says he is awaiting Facebook’s response to his findings which point to an abuse of market dominance by harvesting data on people without their consent, particularly on websites where people do not expect the company to collect data from them.
According to Mundt’s analysis, Facebook has a market share of social media in Germany at around 90%, a figure described as “inaccurate” by the social network.
