Supreme Court Dismisses Microsoft Privacy Case

It was reported last Tuesday that the US Supreme Court had dismissed the case between Microsoft and the US Justice Department over access to the software giant’s data stored in its Ireland servers.

The CLOUD Act, which President Donald Trump had recently signed, rendered the legal battle moot as it allows the US to make agreements with other countries to give authorities access to data stored overseas.

Microsoft president Brad Smith said that they welcomes both the Supreme Court ruling and the Cloud Act, saying that the company has always sought for a new law and international agreements with strong privacy protections that govern how law enforcement collect digital evidence across borders.
