Study Says Australians Consider Predictive Tech to be “Slightly Creepy”

A new study by consulting firm Accenture showed that a significant number of Australian consumers have trust and privacy issues with smart tech that anticipates the user’s needs .

In a study participated by 1300 Australians, more than 50% said that they are willing to use smart-reordering tech which alerts or automatically reorders products for its user. However, around 39% said that they found it “slightly creepy” when the tech correctly predicts their needs. In addition, around 90% considered the protection of personal information to be extremely important.

Glenn Heppell, managing director of Accenture Products in Australia, said that gaining trust has become a big challenge for most companies as they seek to gather more user information. He added that it will be critical for these companies to employ strong data security and privacy measures, while giving customers full control over their data.
