21 Feb Singaporean Tech Portal Hit with Breach, 685,000 Users Exposed
It was reported last Tuesday that the information of around 685,000 users had been compromised in the breach of HardwareZone (HWZ), a local online technology portal in Singapore.
According to statements from SPH Magazines, the security incident was caused by the hacking of a senior moderator’s account which was used to access thousands of user profiles since September 2017.
The magazine reported that names, email addresses, user IDs and other data fields had been accessed, but the database did not have any NRIC numbers, telephone numbers and addresses as such information had already been purged in line with the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) Guidelines in July 2015.
