Singaporean Govt Welcomes Public Feedback on Anti-Spam, Do-Not-Call Laws

Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission recently announced that it is seeking public feedback on proposed changes to laws that govern marketing practices in the country, specifically the Spam Control Act and Do Not Call (DNC) legislations outlined in the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

The Commission is also pushing for changes that would promote “greater clarity and certainty for organisations in complying with the PDPA”, such as shortening the withdrawal of consent period for consumers from 30 days, to 10 business days. Meanwhile, anti-spam laws would be changed to include bulk messages sent via instant messaging identifiers, such as account or login ID created by the consumer.
