Singaporean Communications Board Pushes for Data Protection by Design

Earlier this week, Assistant Chief Executive Yeong Zee Kin of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore said that the city-state’s government would like companies to cultivate a “data protection by design” approach to managing data.

Yeong, who is also the Deputy Commissioner of Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission, explained that data management systems created with such an approach will be more secure and robust. However, systems that integrate IT security requirements after they are built are never as effective and are often more costly.

Yeong added that the IMDA has created an industry guide which companies can use to implement the concept into their systems, processes, workflows, and even physical environment.
