Singapore Data Watchdog Issues New Rules on In-vehicle Cameras

Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) issued last Monday a new set of guidelines on in-vehicle recording devices (IVRDs) used by transport services.

The PDPC said that services that use devices which can record images, video, and audio that can identify an individual must put the necessary policies and practices in place to comply with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

A spokesperson for the Land Transportation Authority also clarified that taxis and private hire cars that wish to install inward-facing cameras must first get approval from the agency.
