Senate to Pass Nat’l ID System Bill by 2018, Sen. Drilon Assures No Privacy Violations

The Philippine Senate may pass a National Identification System bill as early as 2018, according to Sen. Panfilo Lacson.

The senator, who chairs the subcommittee on the national ID system, vows to commit to the bill’s passing in at least the first quarter of next year.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said that pertinent provisions of the Data Privacy Act will still apply. The senator further revealed that all citizens will be given a Common Reference Number (CRN), which will be included in the ID along with the individual’s photo, full name, address, date and place of birth, sex, civil status, signature, and date of card issuance.
