25 Aug Queensland Police App May Compromise Privacy
Queensland, Australia – An investigation is being made into an app used by Queenslanders to report crime to the authorities.
The state’s Information Commissioner says that the Policelink app raises a red flag since it gives the police access to the mic, contacts, photos, audio and GPS of a user’s mobile phone, without explaining how it handles privacy and security.
Police responded that since they have the authority to respond to terror threats, they should be allowed to gather any available information and use it as they need. However, Commissioner Ian Stewart revealed that the app had been redesigned considerably in light of the recent issue.
