Private Health Still the Most Breached Sector in Australia

According to the latest Notifiable Data Breaches report in Australia, private health is still the country’s most breached sector.

The OAIC says that between July and September, it had received 245 data breach notifications, an increase of three, with two breaches impacting between 100,000 and 250,000 people being the largest reported.

The data authority says that 57 percent was the result of a malicious attack, 37 percent due to human error, and 6 percent caused by a system fault. Half of the attacks were due to phishing, with almost a fifth as a result of compromised or stolen credentials, and 12 percent due to brute-force attacks. As high as 45 percent were reported to private health providers.
