Privacy Expert Scoffs at Rosenstein’s “Responsible Encryption”

In a recent interview , chief technologist at the Center for Democracy and Technology Joseph Lorenzo Hall ridiculed the proposal of top Justice Department official Rod Rosenstein on encryption.

The deputy attorney general had been advocating for the use of “responsible encryption” as a common ground for tech companies and law enforcement. However, Hall pointed out that the mere existence of a backdoor reduces the the inherent security of personal devices such as mobile phones.

Hall further said that although the government may feel entitled to access anything that they have a lawful court order for, but he thinks that there should be clear places where the government should never be able to reach.
