Privacy Concerns Growing in China with Increased AI Development

A recent survey conducted by the China Central Television and Tencent Research found that a majority of people in China are worried about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technologies on their privacy.

Out of 8000 respondents, around 76.3% regard certain forms of AI to be a privacy threat. Around 50% say that it is already affecting their work life, while a third see it as a threat to their employment.

The World Bank predicts that that three out of four jobs in China will be automated using AI by 2030. However, Tencent’s co-founder Chen Yidan says that even if AI automates a significant number of tasks, this will only result in the creation of more jobs.
