12 Apr Presidential Spokesman Says Duterte Did Not Buy Data to Win Elections
Refuting reports from the South China Morning Post last week, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Tuesday that President Rodrigo Duterte’s 2016 election win did not rely on bought information and confirmed that his campaign team did not hire political consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica.
The Chinese newspaper claimed that Duterte had enlisted the help of Cambridge Analytica’s parent firm, Strategic Communications Laboratories (SCL), to secure his presidency.
However, Roque insisted that Duterte won “fair and square” and should not be undermined with undermined with “unsubstantiated allegations”. He added that then campaign treasurer Carlos Dominguez assured him that no transaction had taken place with the UK-based analytics company.
