13 Mar Preschool App Leaves Millions of Israeli Kids’ Pictures at Risk of Hacking
A security researcher recently discovered a gaping hole in the security of an app called Remini, which allows preschool teachers to stay in touch with parents.
Sensitive information such as pictures and videos of children and their learning environment and other personal conversations are often transmitted via Remini. However, it only took the researcher an hour to get full access to the app’s database, which was stored in an unsecured Amazon server containing 8.5 million pictures and videos of children, plus details about 111,000 adults including email addresses, Facebook information and telephone numbers.
The issue had already been fixed, but was noted that Israel’s Education Ministry had recommended the app prior, and even described it as a “secure social network where preschool staff members and parents can communicate in a closed environment.
