26 Oct OPC, GPEN Find Privacy Policies of Several Educational Apps to Be Inadequate
Gatineau, QC – The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) recently took part in the fifth annual Global Privacy Enforcement Network (GPEN), where the privacy policies and features of a number of educational apps used in Canadian classrooms were scrutinized.
Privacy Commissioner of Canada Daniel Therrien said that while they were please to find that most of the apps employed adequate privacy protection measures, a few still encouraged its users to provide more information than necessary.
The 2017 GPEN Sweep, which was also participated by 24 other data protection regulators from around the world, found that privacy policies are often written too vaguely and do not provide much protection for users.
