One in Four Devices Susceptible to Highly Advanced SpyDealer Malware

A brand-new Android trojan is now making rounds, according to a security expert.

The SpyDealer trojan has the ability root android devices, geo-track users, and even steal user info on more than twenty applications. Researchers reveal that the threat has been active since October 2015.

SpyDealer acquires admin privileges on a user’s phone using the “Baidu Easy Root”, a commercial rooting app. Android versions 2.2 up to 4.4 are vulnerable to rooting.

On devices where SpyDealer cannot perform a root, it will continue to wreak havoc by obtaining information that  does not require admin privileges such as phone data collection.
