The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) recently revealed in its Annual Report that it had addressed a total of 19,407 privacy inquiries from 2017 to 2018, with the most common query being the use and disclosure of an individual’s personal information.

The Australian data authority said that it saw a 16 percent increase in inquiries over the year prior. The report also showed that the OAIC received 1,560 inquiries regarding the use or disclosure of personal information; 1,351 related to the access to personal information; 991 on the general collection of personal information; and 882 on the security of personal information obtained.

Newly appointed Information and Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk said that her office will be adding more employees as she expects inquiries to significantly increase once the new Consumer Data Right gets introduced next year.
