NPC Warns Public of “Vishing” Scams

National Privacy Commission chief Raymund Enriquez Liboro recently issued a warning to the public about a new scam called “vishing”, which is a variant of phishing that uses robocalls.

Liboro said that these computer-generated calls may be using a system that guesses mobile phone numbers at random. When the target answers the call he will be asked to update his personal information which may include bank account numbers, credit card numbers, or even PIN numbers.

The callers may even impersonate representatives from financial authorities and direct the victim to open a fake website to provide his personal data.

Liboro reminded the public to strengthen the privacy and security settings of their social media accounts and to never give away their mobile numbers to just about anyone nor post it on Facebook.
