NPC: Uber-Grab Deal Will Not Affect Breach Investigation

National Privacy Commissioner Raymund Enriquez Liboro said earlier this week that the sale of Uber’s Southeast Asian business to Grab will not affect their ongoing probe on the data breach that the former revealed last year.

Last November, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi admitted that they did not immediately disclose a breach that exposed the details of around 57 million users of their service worldwide.

Liboro added that Grab had told his office that no sharing of user data will occur between the two ride-hailing companies and that Uber drivers will be required to submit their information again to use the Grab platform. The commission will also be meeting with them next week to discuss more details about the sale, particularly about the measures the company will be employing to protect user data.
