20 Oct NPC Orders Facebook to Help Filipino Users Affected by Breach
The National Privacy Commission ordered Facebook this week to provide free identity theft and phishing insurance to over 750,000 Filipinos that had been affected by the data breach which recently hit the social network.
The NPC also requested Facebook to submit a more comprehensive Data Break Notification Report, and roll out a program that will increase the awareness of Filipino users on the subjects of identity theft and phishing.
While Facebook responded that the effects of the breach may only influence a user’s likelihood of getting targeted for professional “spam” operations, the commission said that Filipinos are not as aware of spam, phishing and identity theft compared to users in other developed nations.
