NPC in Talks with Facebook Over Misused Data of Filipino Users

The National Privacy Commission revealed last Friday that it is currently talking to Facebook representatives on the possible violations to the data privacy laws of the country for its improper sharing of personal information with analytics firm Cambridge Analytica.

NPC chief Raymund Enriquez Liboro said that they discussed with Facebook the extent of the impact the incident had on Filipino users and found that around 1,175,312 accounts may have been affected. The US-based tech giant also revealed that 558,000 Filipinos had installed the My Digital Life quiz which was used by a Dr. Aleksandr Kogan to harvest data.

Liboro also called on the Filipino public to minimize the amount of personal information they share online, while maximizing the use of available privacy protection features and tools.
