NPC Chief: We Have the Strictest Personal Data Protection Law in the World

In a roundtable discussion with the media last Tuesday, Privacy Commissioner Raymund Liboro said that Philippines has the “strictest” personal data protection law in the world.

To allay fears concerning the proposed national identification (ID) system, the commissioner also revealed that the country’s laws on data processing are quite punitive even by world standards.

Liboro added that the National Privacy Commission was created to to implement the Data Privacy Act of 2012 or Republic Act 10173, but clarified that his office is not a policy-making body.
