17 Apr New Study Shows Growing User Anxiety Over Privacy on the Internet
According to a new study conducted by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), Ipsos, in collaboration with UNCTAD and the Internet Society showed that around four fifths of users from North America consider internet companies to be their primary source of online anxiety.
The result is 5% higher from the previous year. More than 50% of respondents in all 25 economies also said that they are now more concerned of their online privacy than they were a year ago. In the Middle East and Africa the growing concern rose from 55% to 61%.
Shamika Sirimanne, director of UNCTAD’s technology and logistics division said that the results show the importance of adopting and adapting policies to cope with the evolving digital economy, and suggested that policymakers deal holistically with areas such as connectivity, payment solutions, skills and regulations.
