07 Dec New PNP App Raises Privacy Concerns
A tech journalist recently highlighted several privacy and security concerns on a new app recently launched by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a Facebook post, journalist Art Samaniego Jr. pointed out several red flags in the PNP’s “Know Your Rights” app. The app apparently requires access to text messages, phone and phone call logs, and photos and other media files on the device upon installation.
In a second post, Samaniego added that a “backdoor” had been mentioned within the app’s code, and it is uncertain if it was just meant as a joke by the developer.
He urged the public not to install the app until the PNP and its developer addresses the said concerns.
