Manx Government Says Data Sharing Plans Will Prioritize Privacy and Data Security

The Cabinet Office is looking to limit the public’s need to enter personal data when transacting with the government.

As departments of the government are treated as separate entities, personal information from customers including updates in their account is not automatically changed across departments. This requires individuals to send multiple updates, inconveniencing both the customer and all departments involved.

A central information database has been previously planned but concerns on information abuse and leaks were raised by campaigners for civil liberty.

The solution proposes the development of applications that explicitly request user consent where one system can communicate with other systems within the government whenever client information is updated.

The consultations can be viewed online at https://consult.gov.im/ and will be open until September 29, 2017.
