09 Nov MantisTek GK2 Gaming Keyboard Sends Keystroke Data Back to Manufacturer
Tech website Tom’s Hardware recently found out that a gaming keyboard manufactured by Chinese company MantisTek sends back keystroke data to an Alibaba server.
The website initially reported that the keyboard’s Cloud Driver software sent back key press data to the server. However, their updated article said that the keyboard only sends back the number of presses on each key.
The author did point out that the manufacturer might have wanted such data to measure the durability of its product. Nevertheless, the keyboard’s software sent back the data without explicitly getting the user’s consent, which may constitute as a violation of privacy laws in the EU.
