Malaysian Communications Regulator Block Websites Reporting on Massive Data Breach

Social media users have criticized the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for blocking websites that have reported on the biggest data leak in the country.

Netizens noted that the MCMC previously asked Lowyat.net to take down the article which brought the breach to light. The commission then shut down another website, SayaKenaHack.com, which was created by a tech blogger to help victims verify if they had been included in the breach.

Lawyers for Liberty’s Eric Paulsen blasted the MCMC and said that instead of addressing the issue at hand, it chose to use its resources to arrest users critical of politicians and other personalities.
