Major South African Data Breach Includes Private Info of Young Children

Johannesburg, South Africa – Latest statistics on what is considered to be the biggest data breach in the country’s history revealed that the private information of children as young as 3 years old were also affected.

Troy Hunt of breach verification website “Have I Been Pwned” expressed his disbelief on the discovery. He said there was no reason for the information of young kids to be in the compromised records, adding that he was stunned to see that around 19% of the data in the records belonged to children. If teenagers were to be included, the number would jump to 29%

It was also reported that the Department of Home Affairs, as well as the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations, would be conducting their own probes into the incident.
