27 Aug Legal Groups Accuse Aetna of Breaching HIV Patients Privacy
The Legal Action Center (LAC) and the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania (ALPP) has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Aetna, stating that the mailing practices of the healthcare company breached the privacy of HIV patients.
The legal group is citing the mail that Aetna sends to patients across the US which has a wide window where patients’ name, address, claim number and other sensitive information can easily be seen by anybody handling the envelope.
The mail was sent to around 12,000 patients in Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington last July.
