Lack of Digital Trust a Major Hurdle for Tech-driven Companies

According to the 13th Accenture Strategy Global Consumer Pulse Research, almost 41% of Irish consumers are wary of technologies that accurately interpret their needs, while 39% fear that smart services will collect too much information on them and their family.

As many as 94% of Irish consumers also said that it is extremely important for companies to protect the privacy of their personal information, and 82% expressed their frustrations that some companies cannot be trusted to use user information appropriately.

The survey, which measured the attitudes and expectations of consumers around the world, came to light amidst rumors that Facebook and other platforms surreptitiously use the microphones of user devices to glean information for better ad targeting. However, Facebook and fact-checking website Snopes dismissed claims that tech companies do eavesdrop on consumer conversations.
