29 Jul iRobot CEO Assures Customers They Will Not Sell Roomba Data
News last Friday reported iRobot founder and CEO Colin Angle denying Reuters’ previous report that said they have plans to sell customer data from Roomba.
iRobot’s Roomba is an automatic vacuum that maps out customer’s houses to employ smart cleaning technology. While using this information can help other smart home devices work better, the company said it will never sell their customer’s data.
Angle penned a letter to ZD Net as a response to the issue, saying that customers must be able to control when their data is shared, and user information should not be taken advantage by businesses.
When asked about Reuters’ report, the company said they misinterpreted what Angle said. iRobot also stated they did not have any discussions with other firms about transferring user data.
Angle concluded the letter saying they aim to create machines that can help their customers enjoy convenient living, so they can also be independent once they reach old age.
