06 Dec Irish Privacy Watchdog Warns Against Kids Tech Dolls
Ireland’s Data Protection Commission recently issued a warning to holiday shoppers to be mindful of features such as recording devices, cameras, and GPS on tech toys for young kids, saying that these could pose a serious privacy and security risk.
The DPA pointed out dolls in particular, since the toy’s “human-like” qualities can be used by some manufacturers to elicit and record children’s conversations.
The advisory follows several issues in EU concerning interconnected toys in 2016, and another about smartwatches in 2017 which German authorities have already banned.
