06 Feb Ireland to Require Airlines to Give Passenger Information in Advance
According to local media RTE last Saturday, all airlines flying in and out of Ireland will have to provide traveler information to the country’s authorities in advance.
Irish Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan, who proposed the new rule, said that the move was consistent with the new European Union (EU) directive called Passenger Name Record (PNR) and is intended to be a key element in the fight against terrorism.
A spokesperson for the Ireland’s Data Protection Commissioner’s office assured that the privacy of passenger information will be protected under data protection laws, and that a data protection officer will be tasked to monitor and ensure compliance with the data protection regulations.
