iPhone Users Still Being Phished, Despite Privacy Icon

Tech website ZDNet recently noted that iPhone and iPad users are still vulnerable to phishing attacks, despite the rollout of Apple’s long-awaited privacy icon.

It was clarified by security researcher Will Strafach that the icon’s purpose may have been misinterpreted by users anticipating greater privacy protections. Strafach pointed out that the icon will only serve to alert users if Apple will be collecting sensitive data from them. However, it will not prevent phishing instances such as those that try to steal the user’s iCloud password.

ZDNet also said that it seems Apple is not making any strong efforts to combat phishing or social engineering, a problem which it said was particularly difficult to address.
