01 Sep Instagram Warns “High-Profile” Users of Account Security Threat
Instagram recently alerted its verified users that their phones and emails may be the target of unlawful access attempts.
The security issue, caused by a buggy API, was quickly fixed, and the company assured that no passwords were compromised.
A similar incident involving the hacking of high-profile or celebrity accounts on Instagram happened just last June when cyber attackers controlled their malware via comments on Britney Spears’ account. Cybersecurity company ESET found out that such attacks use a fake Firefox extension that would search a particular Instagram post to work out the location of the malware command and control server.
