04 Jan Indian Parliamentary Committee Pushes for Data Privacy Law
Earlier this week, India’s Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance urged the government to create a data privacy law at the earliest possible time.
In a report entitled Transformation Towards a Digital Economy, the committee, headed by senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily, said that more trained professionals are needed to deal with the rising number of cyber challenges.
The report also called for a sound consumer privacy and data protection law to prevent the country from being a “digital colony” that has its data controlled by global entities.
