05 Jan Homeland Security Breach Compromises Information of 240,000 Employees, Case Witnesses
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed last Wednesday that the DHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) Case Management System (CMS) had been breached, and that the information of approximately 247,167 individuals composed of employees, witnesses, complainants, and subjects had been leaked.
The DHS maintained that the leak was not the result of a cyber attack, but rather just a case of unauthorized data transfer. Evidence showed that a former employee had handled an unauthorized copy of the CMS as part of an investigation and that personal information was not the target of the unauthorized exfiltration.
