Guizhou Cloud Company to Handle Apple iCloud Services in China

According to Chinese publication People’s Daily, Apple has agreed to transfer operations of iCloud services in China to a company in Guizhou on February 28.

Guizhou-Cloud Big Data Industry Development Co., Ltd. (GCBD), a company approved by the People’s Government of Guizhou Province in November 2014, will be handling legal and financial relations with iCloud users in mainland China. Guizhou is a Southwestern Chinese province that has developed a big data industrial sector to address the poverty in the region.

Despite privacy concerns raised by the company’s recent move, Apple maintained that they are committed to providing strong data privacy and security mechanisms, and will not creating any backdoors to their system.
