Google May Be Secretly Monitoring and Recording User Conversations

UK newspaper The Sun has recently made an investigation which showed how Google is able to capture intimate conversations via smartphones without the user’s knowledge.

The report says that in most cases, Google Assistant is switched on every time the word “OK” is spoken, even in passing conversations. It then records a 20-second audio clip which it uploads to Google’s cloud.

What asked about the matter, a Google spokesperson said that the feature will only activate if the hot word “OK Google” is used. These audio snippets are used to improve speech recognition quality across Search.

However, users do have access and control over these recordings under https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity.
