Firefox 59 Introduces New Privacy Feature

It was revealed earlier this week that a feature which will remove referrer information from URLs has been introduced in Firefox 59’s Private Browsing Mode.

Referrer information is data sent by the browser when a user clicks on a link. This data tracks the origin of the link which helps webmasters see where their traffic comes from. However, it can also reveal sensitive information such as medical or patient data which can get logged on websites and analytics services.

Mozilla Privacy engineer Luke Crouch says that referrer information will not be stripped in Normal Mode since this kind of data is also important for web analytics.
