Facebook’s Reputation Becomes an Obstacle in Developing Video Chat Device

Reports have revealed that the social media giant is developing a video chat device that is expected to be the direct competitor of Amazon Echo.

The device, codenamed Aloha, is slated to be released May 2018. However, Facebook’s focus group results show that people are generally concerned that the device will be used to spy on them because of the company’s reputation for harvesting personal data about its users.

Because of this, sources say that Facebook is considering a variety of creative ways to market the device. It will be pitched as a way for the elderly to easily communicate with family, and may also be shipped without the “Facebook” brand.
