10 Apr Facebook Drops Another Political Analytics Firm: CubeYou
Facebook revealed earlier this week that it has suspended another data analytics firm for using methods to harvest user data similar to what Cambridge Analytica did.
CubeYou had apparently used personality quizzes such as “You Are What You Like”, also called “Apply Magic Sauce” which were marked for non-profit academic research. The data was then collected by researchers at the Psychometrics Lab of Cambridge University, then sold the data to marketers.
It is said that the incident also highlighted Facebook’s inability to prevent analytics firms from engaging in deceptive practices such as mislabeling the purpose of quizzes that collect personal information.
