18 Oct Facebook Breach Affected 3 Million in Europe
In what is seen to be a first major test of EU’s GDPR, Ireland’s Data Protection Commission said this week that Facebook’s recent breach had affected around 3 million users in Europe.
The social media giant initially said that 50 million users around the world had been affected by the theft of access tokens. However, the number was reduced to 30 million, with the company confirming that around 29 million had their usernames and contact information compromised. Additionally, 14 million had their personal information, such as gender, relationship status, and recent check-ins stolen by the hackers.
Facebook also refused at first to disclose how many European users had been affected, but eventually informed the Irish DPC that 10 percent of the affected accounts were European.
