Experts Warn Against Smart Tech Gifts

In a recent article on BBC, professor at the Department of Computing in the University of Surrey Alan Woodward warned against giving and receiving smart tech gifts this holiday season, saying that little to no regulation govern such devices.

Woodward also questioned why some devices need to be connected, given that connectivity brings a significant amount of risk. He added that if connectivity is not essential to the operation of the device, users should consider disabling it.

Woodward also told consumers to be wary of the words “smart” or “connected”, and said that if they do decide to use such a device, they should first do a search for known issues, flaws, exploits, or vulnerabilities related to the device online.
