24 Aug Experts Say Silicon Valley Tech Giants Plan to Extract More Data to Increase Profits
An opinion piece from UK publication The Guardian alleges that Silicon Valley companies such as Google, Facebook and Amazon are planning to increase surveillance and data extraction from users to effectively increase profits.
It cites Amazon’s Alexa-enabled home assistant Echo and similar products and services as examples of ways tech companies conduct online surveillance on consumers.
The article says that capital can rapidly readjust norms, and people can easily get used to giving up their privacy, which is why consumers should demand more democratic control over their data.
