02 Dec EU Privacy Regulator Calls on Bloc’s Lawmakers to Form Centralized DPA
In a recent interview, EU Data Protection Supervisor Giovanni Buttarelli said that the bloc’s lawmakers should consider creating a centralized data protection authority that would be granted more powers to probe and sanction companies.
Buttarelli pointed out that it would not be sustainable in the long term to have authorities who act as regulators fragment their actions at the bloc, then national level, and in various sectors. He added that a single regulator may improve EU leadership in terms of value and enforcement.
Buttarelli also promised to publish an opinion piece on “fake news” next year.
