Election Candidates Receive Warning on Potential Personal Data Abuse

Greece Presidential candidate Nicolas Papadopoulous had been reprimanded by the Personal Data Protection commissioner for contacting voters for his election campaign.

Following receipt of several complaints from the public over unsolicited calls from election candidates, commissioner Irene Loizidou has sent information on personal data protection law and a final warning to all candidates.

Loizidou added that no leniency will be shown now that all presidential candidates are made aware of the provisions of the law. Candidates are reminded that phone numbers and personal data must not be used in the promotion, delivering good, selling or any other services unless a written consent is given by the person.
